Archive.org Download of the Week: John Brown’s Body

A Reggae band with some Jam Band undertones, John Brown’s Body was voted the best live act at the 2002 Boston Music Awards. While they lost their lead singer in 2006, when he left the band, they have continued to tour and have an eclectic 8 piece band that puts on an interesting live show.

Archive.org Download of the Week- Ben Lee

Archive.org Download of the Week- Ben Lee

This week’s show is a performance by Australian singer songwriter Ben Lee, aka the guy that was sleeping with Claire Danes for awhile.
Lee was another musician I discovered through WBER while in high school, they played the ever living hell out of his single “Cigarettes Will Kill You”, which isn’t a bad thing in the least. A true road warrior, Lee has toured the world over and continues to put out quality albums with deft lyrics, catchy riffs, and an overall enjoyable demeanor.
This show was from his Knitting Factory Appearance in June of 2004 and features a wide sampling of …read more

Archive. Org Download of the Week- The Grateful Dead

Archive. Org Download of the Week- The Grateful Dead

Archive.org has over 2,400 show available for streaming or download of the Grateful Dead, that is a number I can’t even wrap my head around. If you downloaded a show a day and listened to it, well it would take you over six and a half years to make it through the collection.
Currently it is closed from public uploads, with the sound board versions offered in only streaming format. Audience recordings are available for download in various formats and range in quality, since I am attempting to only offer up shows that you can download for this series I have …read more

Archive.org Download of the Week- Conehead Buddha

Archive.org Download of the Week- Conehead Buddha

This weeks featured download is a trip down memory lane, which will without a doubt date me. When I originally went to college there was a band called Conehead Buddha that had a pretty good sized regional following. They played a lot of the local venues and put on a highly energetic show that was usually full of their energetic fan base. Here is their own description from their website, “Originally intended as a Salsa dance band, Conehead’s sound has flourished as a showcase for Rock, Ska, Funk, Pop, Latin and Hip-Hop music.”
I totally forgot about this band as time …read more

Archive.Org Download of the Week- Ben Kweller

Archive.Org Download of the Week- Ben Kweller

I first heard about Ben Kweller on the independent radio station WBER, they were playing his single “Wasted and Ready”. Kweller, was formerly a member of Radish an alternative rock band that had broken up in the late nineties after releasing one album and had moved on to a solo career in the folk, acoustic, indie rock vein.
When I saw Kweller open for Ben Folds, play a solo acoustic set I was blown away, he really was excellent in concert and I enjoyed most of his songs. He had the crowd going from the get go as he played “BK …read more

Archive.org Download of the Week: The Disco Biscuits

Archive.org Download of the Week: The Disco Biscuits

This weeks offering is the Disco Biscuits in what has so far been one of the best reviewed shows I have seen on archive.org.
The consensus in the reviews was that this was the best show from 2003-2006, and in some of their forums this is discussed as well. I am not a super Disco Biscuits fan, I haven’t listened to them enough to really talk about them but I really did appreciate this show and learned to like this band that much more. In fact I am in the process of ordering some tickets for an upcoming show before I …read more

Archive.org Download of the Week: John Butler Trio

I talked about my love for Archive.org a little bit ago, now I want to start offering up some of the different shows that are available on their site that I have personally enjoyed.
The first show I want to talk about is the John Butler Trio live at the Wiltern on June 22, 2007… I was at that show and I had a great time, I would have written a show review but this blog hadn’t launched yet. Oh and the fact that I am seeing them in Buffalo on August 2nd and working on setting up an interview with …read more
