My Favorite Concert Venues- Number 5
With the summer music season in full swing, I was discussing with my friends what our favorite venues were. Our discussion ran the gamut from stadiums to amphitheaters to small clubs, with everyone chiming in on what they liked and why.
I figured that I would share a few of my favorites and have you share a few of yours. To give this some sort of build up I decided to do it top five style, here is the first entry:
My Favorite Makes me feel like a sellout venue- The Los Angeles House of Blues

I have to admit, I tried to avoid going to shows at the House of Blues, I don’t have a good reason other than that I felt kind of like a sellout going to see a band at a chain restaurant. But of course I go to ticket master venues and stadiums to see shows, basically I can’t even follow my own logic on this.
A few years back I went to a show at the House of Blues in LA and I had to say that there wasn’t a bad place in the entire building to see the stage. The way the venue is setup with a lower level ring and a balcony ring around the stage, with a multi-leveled floor makes it easy to see the stage from any vantage point.
Bars are at every edge of the building, so drinks aren’t a problem, which is always a plus. The sound, lighting, and presentation is at the highest quality, which you would expect at a venue in the heart of the sunset strip.
My only knock on isn’t really on the venue itself, it is the LA crowd, which I kind of despise. At my last show there I was next to the VIP area, where people had chairs and table set up near the stage. Every single person in the VIP area spent more time on their blackberries than actually watching the show, which irked me. The rest of the crowd seemed to be removed from the action, like they were there but either weren’t impressed or just didn’t care either way. That has been the story for most of the shows I have seen here in Southern California.
I shouldn’t let that hurt my view on the venue but it does.
What venue do you enjoy that you aren’t “supposed” to?

HOB is nice. Great food. Great, great sound. Just don’t like standing. Yeah, I could get there earlier I guess.
My fave is the Greek Theatre.
